DME Host First Grind Session Tournament
DME Sports Academy hosted the first Grind Session tournament this weekend in a Friday-Saturday run down with multiple teams from coast to coast in Florida.
The first game on Friday, Feb 9 tipped off at 3:00 pm against TSA and Glove Prep high school. Glove Prep closed out the game 79 – 66.
Next game, our very own Post Grad G National suited up for Central Point Academy. DME’s Charles Jones led that game in scoring with 17 points. Jeremiah Gillard finished with 11 points and Joshua Edwards added 10 to the board. PG National pulled out a win 86-72.
Following PG, DME High School National competed in the most anticipated game of the tournament – West Oaks Academy. Vadim Clanet led the team with 19 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 steals. Mame Niang added 17 points and 8 rebounds. Mayoum Mayoum scored 13 points and Deandre Harvey had 10 points. Keanu Calderon had a solid game all around with 6 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block.
Coming close to the end, HS National pulled out a win over West Oaks Academy 70-67.
Closing out the first day, DME Post Grad Elite played the last game against NTSI. Terry Li finished with 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. Demetri Richardson added 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Frank Mompoint had 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. DME Elite lost against NTSI 80-84.
The second day of Grind Session started at 1:30 PM with NTSI opening against Glove Prep. Fighting neck to neck during the game, Glove Prep trailed seven points 42-49 at the half. NTSI’s William Harrison finished with 15 points. For Glove Prep, Thibault Rio finishing with 15 points. NTSI closed out the tournament with a 1-1 record over the course of the weekend with a win over Glove Prep 88 – 84.
Second game was the first appearance of DME of the day. Off a good win from the day before, DME HS National looked forward to playing Central Pointe. HS National stated off strong, finishing halftime up eight points, 41-33. Keano Calderon led the game with 17 points and Marko Vukojcic had 14 points and 3 rebounds. HS National closed out the tournament with an undefeated record with a win over Central 85-79.
Next game consisted of PG National taking on TSA Prep. TSA trailed PG National the whole game. Arminas Gras led the team with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Tyrese Potoma also had 12 points and 5 rebounds. Carl Ntifo added 8 points and 8 rebounds. PG National dominated over TSA 93 – 51.
Last game of the tournament closed out with West Oaks vs Rockledge going head to head. West Oaks took the lead quickly, finishing the half 48-38. For the start of the second half, Rockledge came back in the game, keeping the game close to 5 points.
Coming close to the end, Rockledge’s Donald Richardson Jr. hit a three-pointer from the wing to go up 79-76 with 20 seconds left. Rockledge pulled out a win over West Oaks 80-76. Donald Richardson finished with 18 points and Elijah Weaver scored 15 points. West Oak’s Tyrieke Blakeney had 17 points and Eric Amandio scored 16 points.
