HS Regional Pulls Away In Second Half Against Duval Charter
DME High School Regional won against Duval Charter School 62-34 Friday afternoon. DME Regional opened the game with a slow start down 0-6 but progressed throughout the first quarter and only managed to give up 12 points to Duval Charter with the score of 11-12.
Starting off with a much stronger start in the second quarter, Rafael Martini came out and hit two quick three’s that put Regional up six. Martini had 16 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 blocks. Martini also provided two of his five assists to Matheus Mourao, who hit two momentum shots that left Regional up two points, 26-24, at the half. Mourao had 19 points and 4 assists.
Third quarter, Regional started off with massive defensive play by Ronaldo Messam, who finished with 22 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Messam became the hot hand on the court and tallied 12 of the teams 25 points in the third. Rafael Martini also had a defensive presence down on the low block with 3 blocks. From the 7 minute mark, Regional went on a 26-5 run and held Duval to only 5 points that entire quarter, 51-29.
Close to sealing the deal in the fourth, Regional Denzil Fernandes turned on the defensive button and managed to come away with 4 steals and 6 rebounds as a force down. Regional took on an 11-3 run and Duval scored a total of 5 points the entire fourth 62-34.
Regional now prepares to take this game’s momentum into their next game on Monday against Bishop Snyder at University Christian in the MLK Showcase.
